01 · DEFINITION

What is the Global Market Fear & Greed Index?

There is no single official fear-and-greed score for every country and asset class. This page compares independently maintained readings on one 0–100 display while keeping each source and calculation class visible.

02 · METHODOLOGY

How is each market fear and greed index calculated?

The dashboard separates published indices, volatility conversions and transparent Market Depth Lab proxies instead of presenting them as one formula.

04 · COMPARISON

Why do fear and greed scores differ between websites?

Providers can use different indicators, normalization windows, market closing times and zone thresholds. A crypto composite, a regional equity composite and an inverted volatility score answer related but different questions.

05 · USE

Can this index be used as a buy or sell signal?

Not on its own. The score describes market mood, not fair value, future returns or an executable trade. Use it as context alongside price trend, liquidity, positioning and your own risk limits.

06 · DATA

Data sources and update timing

Live cards retain each provider’s timestamp. Daily markets close in different time zones and follow different holiday calendars; comparisons therefore describe the latest available observation for each series, not one simultaneous global close.

07 · FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is this one official global fear and greed index?

No. It is a comparison dashboard. Providers use different formulas, and Hong Kong is a volatility-derived score rather than a composite sentiment index.

What does a score of 0 or 100 mean?

Scores near 0 describe unusually defensive or fearful conditions in that series, while scores near 100 describe unusually strong or greedy conditions. They are relative context, not buy or sell signals.

Which market is the most fearful or greedy today?

The live answer and comparison table identify the lowest and highest current readings after every refresh. Because markets close in different time zones, today means the latest available observation for each series.

Why does this score differ from another website?

Providers can use different indicators, normalization windows, closing times and sentiment thresholds. Compare the method class and direction before comparing a few points between sites.

Are the U.S. Big 7 scores full fear and greed indices?

No. Each Big 7 score is the stock's position in its own trailing 52-week price range. It is a transparent range-position reading, not a multi-indicator sentiment composite.

Can fear and greed be used as a buy or sell signal?

Not on its own. Sentiment does not measure fair value or predict future returns, so it should be combined with price, liquidity, positioning and an explicit risk limit.
