Binance is a centralized exchange for buying, selling and holding crypto. For a first purchase, distinguish Spot, Convert and Futures. Spot buys the asset, Convert gives you a swap quote, and Futures is a separate margin product with liquidation risk. Regular spot fees start at 0.1%; your total cost and ability to withdraw also depend on the quote and funding route.
What can you do on Binance?
For a first purchase, the useful distinction is between buying the asset and trading a contract linked to its price. Spot trading buys or sells crypto. Futures create a position that can gain or lose value without delivering the same ownership, and leverage adds liquidation risk.
| What you want to do | Product to understand first |
|---|---|
| Buy crypto and hold or withdraw it | Spot trading; compare the order-book price with any simple-buy quote |
| Trade with limit orders | The spot order book and maker/taker fees |
| Take a leveraged position | Futures, margin requirements, funding and liquidation rules, where available |
| Use tokens and apps onchain | Binance Wallet, a separate product with its own network and signing risks |
If a contract is what you need, the Binance Futures guide starts with account access, collateral and what the order screen actually means. The fee calculator answers the separate question of how much a filled trade costs.
To buy stocks with USDT, read the Binance Stocks and bStocks guide for the differences between shares, stock tokens and selling your holdings.
You do not have to use every feature. If your goal is a small first purchase, a supported payment route, a clear quote and the ability to withdraw matter more than the size of the product menu.
How much does Binance cost?
The regular spot schedule lists 0.1% per trade before applicable discounts. At that rate, a 1,000 USDT order costs 1 USDT in trading fees. Buying and later selling are two trades. A simple-buy quote, an account promotion or another product can have different pricing.
The Binance fee guide and calculator separates trading fees, BNB deductions and the 20% fee reward available through this site’s registration offer. It also explains why a low trading fee does not tell you the total cost of paying by card or withdrawing crypto.
For a quick balance check, the BNB to USD converter values 0.01, 0.02 or 0.1 BNB, or converts a dollar budget into BNB before fees.
Buying USDT from another user with a supported payment account? The Binance P2P guide explains offer selection, total payment costs and what to do if you have paid but the seller has not released the crypto.
Is zero-fee Convert cheaper than Spot?
Convert gives you a swap quote without having to use an order book. But no separately charged trading fee does not necessarily mean more crypto for your money. Binance says Convert quotes can differ from spot prices; either route can look better at a particular moment.
Compare the same spending amount at roughly the same time, then check how much of the same asset you receive after fees. If you plan to withdraw, subtract the charge for the supported network too. Comparing a “zero fee” label with a 0.1% spot fee skips the price you actually pay.
Why can I trade a coin but not withdraw it?
Trading and transfers are separate services. A network or wallet maintenance window can pause deposits and withdrawals while trading remains open. Check whether the withdrawal screen reports network maintenance or an account restriction. For maintenance, look for a reopening notification; for an account restriction, use in-account support rather than trying another chain to bypass it.
This can also explain a price gap between exchanges. Suppose one quotes 100 and another 103, but the transfer route is closed. That 3% is not an immediately available profit. If your purchase is meant to fund another venue or your own wallet, check the exit route before buying.
Is Binance safe? Separate account security from custody
A strong password, passkey or authenticator can make account theft harder. They do not remove the risk of keeping assets with an exchange. Deposits into an exchange account are different from holding an asset in a wallet you control; access to withdrawals also depends on the platform and its account rules.
Binance publishes proof-of-reserves information. It is useful when assessing disclosed holdings, but it is not a promise that an exchange can never face operational trouble or withdrawal restrictions.
For your own account, use a unique password, enable the available strong authentication and withdrawal controls, and never give a supposed support agent a password, login code or wallet recovery phrase. Before transferring a large amount, test the supported deposit and withdrawal route with a smaller amount.
Binance exchange vs Binance Wallet: which do you need?
An exchange account is for custodial balances and exchange orders. A wallet is for signing onchain transactions and interacting with supported networks. Seeing a token in Binance Wallet does not mean it is listed on the exchange’s spot order book.
This matters if you arrive from a meme-coin page. Check the exact chain and contract before buying, and do not send an unsupported token to an exchange deposit address. The exchange referral code BNBTOMOON and any Binance Wallet referral code are separate offers.
Should you choose Binance, Coinbase, Kraken or Hyperliquid?
- If you need an account-based exchange, compare Coinbase vs Binance or Kraken vs Binance using the payment route you can actually use.
- If you already trade onchain perpetuals, Hyperliquid vs Binance focuses on fees, collateral and the different account models.
- If Binance does not support your residence or desired product, a cheaper fee elsewhere in its global product menu is not a reason to work around that restriction.
How to get started without overcomplicating it
Choose the platform available where you live, then follow the Binance registration and referral guide. After verification and account protection, check the payment method, asset and network before depositing. Preview a spot order and its fee before confirming it. You can stop there; using futures or moving into onchain apps is a separate decision.
Frequently asked questions
Is Binance good for beginners?
It can suit a beginner whose region supports the service and payment method, but the number of products can be confusing. Start with the difference between buying spot crypto and taking a leveraged position. You do not need futures, trading bots or a Web3 wallet just to buy crypto.
Is Binance safe to leave money on?
No exchange eliminates custody or withdrawal risk. Account protections help against unauthorized access, but cannot guarantee that withdrawals will always be available. Keep access credentials secure and decide how much you actually need to hold on the platform.
Is BNB the same as Binance stock?
No. BNB is a crypto asset, not a share in the Binance company. Buying BNB does not give you the shareholder rights associated with company stock.
Can I use Binance in the United States?
US users must consider Binance.US and its state-level availability, not assume they can use Binance.com. The two platforms have separate accounts, products and verification processes. The Binance.com offer on this page is not a Binance.US offer.
